It has been so long!

So sorry for not keeping this updated like I should. Every time I thought about sitting down and updating it I would feel guilty for not studying during my down time. But luckily for me, I had all of my exams last week so this week should be pretty low key so I figured it was time to tell you guys what has been going on. Oh and before I get started I would like to announce that my dad is coming home to visit in LESS THAT TWO WEEKS!

So the biggest change since my last update has been rush. If you haven't heard already I rushed Tri Delta and I am having so much fun already it's crazy.

The first week after Christmas break we began recruitment, which was so much fun. We had three nights of parties. The first night was Philanthropy night, every sorority supports a charity organization and this is the night where we get to see pictures and the girls get to do a little bragging about how much they have accomplished together. Tri Delta supports St. Jude’s hospital and cancer research which has obvious ties to my heart.

The second night was Sisterhood night where the ladies put on fun skits to show us how close they are and show how much fun they have together.

And then the third night was Preference Night where we picked our top two choices and had more of a formal party where the girls showed us their serious sides and told stories about why they chose their sorority or the moment when they realized how much the sorority was a part of their lives, be it a car accident where their sisters where there within moments doing anything they could to help or the loss of a loved one where their sorority sisters sent flowers or drove hours to come to the funeral. Little did I know that I would meet my future big sister this night.
Tri Delta uses the pearl as a symbol of the new members because it starts off as a single cell and grows into something of beauty.

And then the very next morning we had bid day. Oh bid day, one of the happiest days I have had in such a long time. We were out on the soccer field in a big pile of hopeful new members and the different sororities were spread out across the field in big groups with signs and costumes. We were given envelopes and at exactly one o’clock we were allowed to open our bids to see which sorority wanted us to join them. Once we opened our bid, we were allowed to run across the field to the excited sorority that we got into.

After the celebration outside, we had another party where we got to spend time with our new sisters. We played tons of games to get to know each other and we got our Silver Sisters, who are seniors who took care of us for the first few weeks after getting our bids. My Silver Sister's name is Brittany!

And then just last week we got our big sisters! The sorority is kind of broken up into families. Freshman get big sisters who are sophomores, they have their own bigs who are juniors who become the freshman's grand big. These juniors also have bigs who are the freshman's great grand big and so on and so on until it’s just one big family. My big's name is Bradley who I met initially at Preference night. She has a twin (she is not her real twin but the sophomore class was so big that they had to double up) and so my other big's name is Catherine. And then my grand big is Payton who was the first person I ever talked to about Greek life when I was touring at Spring Hill College. It's not as complicated as it seems written out I promise. But basically the job of a big sister is to be just that, a big sister. She is there if I ever need help or to talk or just to have fun. Bradley and I have already had so much fun together. She has also given me so much stuff that I can barely find my bed anymore :)

We just had our first official Tri Delta party last night. "Rocking Together in Denim and Leather" And it was so much fun.

Oh and in case you were wondering if I have been going to school during all of this, yes. Yes, I have. I am taking really cool classes this semester. I have my core classes like English, History and Theology but I am also taking Abnormal Psychology and Social Psychology which I love and Philosophy of Human Nature which has been extremely interesting. Like I said earlier, I had all of my exams in two days last week so I am a little brain dead but no big deal.

"Insert picture of me studying away in the library."

And I am still volunteering at Blount High School tutoring the ACT. I actually just had to give a speech during one of the service fairs about my experience at Blount the other day which was exciting. And o couple of our kids just got their scores back and they got the scores that they needed to get into their college of choice and get a scholarship to play a sport which is not only exciting news for us tutors but the other kids have taken notice of what some of them have already accomplished and it has made them work that much harder to study and do well. Valentine’s day is coming up and I was actually just looking on Pinterest for ideas for a party which I love doing for them :)

I think that is pretty much it for what has happened this semester. I would like to mention while I was making this post, my computer froze up not once but twice. I had to rewrite it three, count em three, times. Hopefully that will make up for not posting for so long. I don't think I forgot anything but if I did I will let you know! Midterm Shmidterm

So every Tuesday and Thursday I tutor at Blount High School across town and I took some pictures of my boys that I work with. They are so sweet and so much fun to be with.

I also volunteer at the Little Sisters of the Poor nursing home every Sunday morning and visit with a resident there, Mrs. Madrine and I do not have pictures of that yet but I will soon.

In January I am going with a group from my school to Washington D.C. for March for Life

While we are there we get to go to the D.C. Holocaust museum for free and I am so excited. This is the very same museum that they go to in Freedom Writers and I have wanted to go there ever since I saw that movie.

Spring Hill also hosts a number of study abroad programs and I am looking into  either studying in Blogna, Italy or Manchester, England. I would love to go and see everything in Europe and visit my friend Joana in Germany.

This is my Travel to-do list. Complete with all of the countries and cities that I want to visit.

It is fall break now and Bayfest is in town and we have seen concerts for B.O.B, Thompson Square, Ludacris, Blake Shelton (which was amazing), Shaggy, Duran Duran, and 3 Doors Down. Tonight we are going to see NEEDTOBREATHE, Wiz Khalifa, and Toby Keith.

Oh yeah, and school. School is great. I just finished up all of my mid terms. I am expecting high A's in all of my classes including Calculus and Logic(sorry mom). But yeah, couldn't be better.

Let the good times roll...

So to say that I have been busy would be an understatement. Spring Hill has kept me busy between classes, tutoring and crazy events.

Classes are going well. I got an A on my first paper, and A on my first still life portrait and a B on my first Calculus exam. I have also been tutoring high schoolers for the ACT at Blount High School two times a week.

In the last week I went to my first foam party, a TKE (which is a fraternity) Rave, and the freshman retreat.

Spring Hill Update

Roommate assignments are in today and I am rooming with Shelby Ray in Walsh Hall.

This is the only picture that I have of the building so far because for some reason its the only one online but I will be sure to take a ton once I get on campus.
So this is the Common Reading Project book that all freshman have to read and I am loving it. Its about Father Gregory Boyle who serves in a church in Los Angeles surrounded by projects infested with gangs and he creates a company that gets these young people off of the street and into a paying job. It is just a collection of stories that he has experienced with the different people he has met that have taught him life lessons. Its amazing. I definately recommend it, such an easy read but each different story either makes you laugh or makes you think. We will get to meet him this Fall which I am so excited about.

Move-in Day is set for August 19! Only 29 more days!
